Castrol Tection Extra

Has anybody ever used this oil for break in and/or regular oil usage?

I was going to buy Rotella T for break in, then i read the bottle on the castrol Tection Extra and it had the CI-4 & CI-4 plus rating not the just CJ-4 which both have. I plan to switch to GTX 10W40 after my third oil change (after break in, 100 miles, 500 miles)

Here is a link to MSDS type in Tection in the keyword slot

http://www.castrol.com/castrol/displ...ategoryId=3240

here is one to GTX diesel They claim 2.5% Zinc per weight

Thanks in advance

Don't know about that oil, but if it has the CJ-4 rating and the CI-4 Plus rating it is the newer blend without the good amount of zddp that you want. Hunt down some of the Rotella WITHOUT the yellow "triple protection rating" on the jug. The old containers with the blue lettering and "advance soot control" on the front is the one with all the zddp that you want. It's getting harder to find, but it is still out there. I just bought two more 6 6-gallon cases today at the local Costco

Zinc looks fine for break in based on the above VOA.

Here is one of the oils we have had very good luck with, all the oil this company makes is superb. We use their Race syn blend in all our race motors.

Cruise through the forum topics like used diesel oil analysis and you wll find some very good and accurate information, as well as the section I linked to above, the virgin oil analysis.

We are a Shaeffers distributor so I get it out of the back storage room.

On the Bob's website though there should be a link somewhere to the Shaeffers site, otherwise google it. In the Shaeffers site they have a list of wholesalers/dealers you can buy through. Another option would be to PM one of the Sheaffer reps that posts in the forum or Bob himself, he's a Shaeffers guy.

We don't buy enough to be able to get you a decent price, basically you'd pay retail plus our markup plus shipping. Not too good a deal. We sell the supreme syn blend around $3.40ish a quart. It's pretty bulletproof oil. WAY better than Mobil 1.

P.S. That is an awesome UOA on the Castrol. That oil is well worth considering for break in. Super stout even after 4000 miles. You compare the TBN and add package still left in that oil and I bet he will get 10,000 on an oil change. That is a better oil at 4000 miles than almost all the other name brand oils at 0 miles.

Good find on that oil.

Somewhat of an old thread. I believe more changes have been made since the last post on the thread. Can anyone add more updated info?

The best source for up to date info is the oildrop website. That is all they do is discuss oil and analysis results and there are results posted on a daily basis.
