cause of low power?

my car is a 82 Grand prix with a SBC 267 with edelbrock RV cam, doubl roller timing chain, edelbrock performer intake, q-jet 4 barel carb, and open hooker headers for now. new spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, everything was changed out. i did time the engine also

i took it for a drive and it kinda just goes mmmmmmm under little throttle then i floored it and it sounded more normal like raps but it didnt seem to get up to speed very fast. also the engine wasnt fully warmed up started for a min or 2. is that normal? sorry just this is my first car.

also why is it after it is driven and put back into park the idle shoots way the hell up to like 2G? on a cold start up it runs at 1000.

well a 267 probably isn't the strongest motor ever built, it should be making some decent power with your setup. First of all, when did it start doing all this? It sounds to me like a vacuum leak or something. Like you put the idle up to compensate for a rough idle down low? What about the carburator, is the choke coming off? You know you have to adjust the warm and cold idle independently correct?

Well if the motors cold then it's not going to run well. Try letting it run for 15 minutes then drive it.

Open headers will make it run doggy also. Your engine needs back pressure to run correctly. Try it with sealed exhaust or at least header mufflers and you'll be amazed at how much more torque and pep it will have. Good luck and keep playing with it, you'll get there.
