CBD test (car buying disease test)

This car just went up for sale locally. '76 Malibu 2dr 350 console buckets. Looks like the Olympic Edition. Apparently the guy's owned it since '84. Looks like the back seat is missing. Asks $1000.

As I write this I think of Hippie's dilemma. 1000 could go a long way on my other stuff. Plus I never thought I'd own a 76 Malibu.

I know this isn't a lot of info to go on. Assuming the body's not totally rotten, whaddaya think? Deal or no deal?

That's the thing. I used to be as indifferent to this car as I was to a K-car. But somehow as it becomes more rare, I find it kinda neat. I'm starting to like the seventies cars. I would jump at the chance for a 75 LeMans Sport.

Car Buying Disease better not come in contact with Car Dying Disease. Looks like a cancer patient to me so would you marry a person eat up with cancer? You are going to spend a fortune in medical treatment, suffer through a lot of heart ache and end up with big time funeral costs in the end. Rest my case.

Yeah...it looks like an Olympic Edition, but I thought that they were a Pontiac Lemans........maybe Chevy made one too.....almost bought one myself once........They are the least popular ofthe Malibus, due to their size, but like you say, seem to be gaining popularity.....make great highway cruisers

Here is a Lemans Olympic Edition...

Well I guess I better chime in here. Currently owning two '76 Monte Carlos myself it's obvious I have a soft spot ( head? ) for the '73-'77 "Forgotten Years". I see a lot of potential there BUT only buy it if it's something you REALLY want because finding a buyer later on will be tough. Forget about any kind of repro stuff for the hard to find parts and get ready to be the butt of jokes from the guys that think these cars suck and that's a LOT of people. On the other hand with a little work and creativity you could have one very cool and unique ride. The wheelwells on these are gigantic! I'm afraid if it were near me and the rust was limited to what we can see in the picture I'd go for it for a Grand. But then I have a '76 Laguna nose sitting in my back garage and I'm picturing it as a retro-NASCAR style G-machine. Don't laugh! With a little work those old pigs can be made to handle well enough to make a nice twisty back country blacktop a lot of fun and still ride halfway decent. If nothing else it would make a nice cruiser but the yellow valve covers have to GO!!! I do think you will see these become more popular but they're never going to be money makers.

Poncho, that's a nice lookin' LeMans.

No need to fall either side of the fence anymore. Thing sold the same day.

Either the car was in really good shape or there's someone out there crazier than I am.

Oh well...Anyone have LeMans for sale?

Trees, you made an excellent point.

2600, that was a good laugh.

Poncho, here's a couple of pics of another Malibu Olympic Ed.

Hippie, I remember driving one of those a few years ago and they are awesome cruisers. That's what kinda got me thinking about this one...

Thanks all for your comments.

Paul.
