Cboy And The Media

This past weekend Cboy was at Wisconsin Dells for a car show. Lots of nice cars there.

Hundreds and hundreds of people stopped to look at and photograph his car. I'm not kidding. I've never seen that much attention given to one car.

The news media from central Wisconsin was there to interview him for a feature story. Also, the Bureau Of Wisconsin Tourism took lots of pictures of the car .

Needless to say, Dewey also received a much deserved award.

I know he wouldn't ever brag about this because he is such a laid-back kind of guy.

I just wanted to say "Way to go, Dewey"

It's about time! and thank you for letting us know, Dewey's not one to blow his own horn. I went on a letter writing spree when he finished the car, to the major car mags, never got a reply from any of them. Their loss. Maybe this will get their attention. Dan

That is awesome! Much deserved attention indeed. I have to say that I don't think I could be so humble if I was in the same situation, haha

I would have posted some pictures but, computers and me just get along.

I asked Dewey if he had any that he would post. I hope so.

These are some shots taken by 454 Rattler's wife during the TV interview. The first two show the crew getting set up. The idea was that I was supposed to look like I was getting out of the car when they come up to do the interview.

The next two were taken during the interview.

And a shot of some spectators lining up to take photos.

What 454 Rattler DIDN'T tell you was how he and I spent Saturday night thrashing in the Chippewa Motel parking lot trying to get the car back together for the second day of the show on Sunday. I damaged the front suspension driving on a very broken up stretch of highway leaving the show grounds on Saturday afternoon. I could have never gotten the car back running without Jerry's help. So a big wet kiss for HIM. And thanks to his wife for catching those photos.

BTW, the Dells show is normally one of the largest held in Wisconsin and averages about 1,400 - 1,500 cars every year. So it's a great opportunity to get the car out for the public to see and to get a chance to talk to folks face to face about how it was built.

That last picture that Dewey posted doesn't show the huge crowd that was around the car most of the day. There were times that you couldn't even see the car.

I'm glad to see Dewey get some credit for all the expert work he did on that project.

Mental Image

Well Dewey, It happened again. As soon as I started reading the first post, I got a mental image of you pounding on those cab corners on the stump. I don't think I need to see a shrink, its just that I was so impressed with your diligence with rudimentary tools. TV crews and crowds, a case of well deserved attention in my book. Nolan

That's awesome! It looks like the radiator would take the hit on a bad road too, was it ok?

The reason the grill shell/radiator look so low is because of what happened to the suspension on the ruff patches of road. It dropped the chassis down about 1 1/2" below normal ride height. Fortunately no other damage was done to the car.

I've now found a permanent fix for what happened...but Jerry and I had to find a "parking lot" solution on Saturday night to get me back up and running on a temporary basis. The only local store of any use to us was the local Home Depot so we made a couple trips back and forth with Jerry's car and basically ended up buying "one of everything" in their hardware department to try to find something that would work to cobble things together.

We eventually got it patched up so it could be safely driven. And Jerry and I didn't even end up throwing any wrenches at one another. So it all turned out pretty well. Just another exciting adventure in Hotrodsville.
