Post Change gears in viper rear end

Any one out there ever change gears in a viper (2000)? Many years ago I worked on a lot of 8 1/4" rear ends so I know whats going on but need some brushing up. I'am retired from a divison of Chrysler that produces trans, rear ends, transaxles and transfer cases . I read the service manual and was wondering if I could make the case spreader tool? I looks fairly simple. This tool is for spreading the casting to install the bearing preload and backlash sims. Any help on any steps "changing rear end gears" would be very helpfull Can you and if so would this be easyer done in the car? Thanks Frank

Never done a Viper, but the case spreader is a common tool on intregal carrier rears and we used to make ours. It doesn't take an enormous amount to spread them so it doesn't have to be any special tool steel ,unless you want to use it hundreds of times.
