Change of plans

Look's like a slight change of plans in building up a 350/383 so I'm looking for some ideas for the current 305 that I have to live with for awhile. I need to keep it rather cheap and would like some things that I can use on the new engine when I get around to it. What I'm thinking is an after market intake, port the heads and do a valve job, maybe a mild cam and an electric fan. Any other thoughts on making the 305 run a little better until the better motor is ready to gp?
Thanks

porting and polishing the heads is a waste of time unless you are building a high rpm motor.
if you are planning on building a bigger motor i wouldn't spend money on parts that you can't use on the bigger motor.
depending on how long you are keeping the 305.
what kind of car is it?

Look's like it will probably be at least a year before I can get the bigger engine. I have the thing but $$ are going to be really tight for awhile. The other thing I am looking at on the 305 is a thinner head gasket to up the compression just a bit. It is actually in an 81 Chevy truck. I know, not really a hot rod but I there seems to be alot better motor info. here than on any truck site around!

Hey now! Don't knock the truck rods!!! LOL.....the can be just as quick as any other.
Do not waste money on those 305 heads!!!! And when you are talking bigger engine, does that mean 350? 400? 454? what? If it's a 350 then upgrade the intake, maybe the ignition system, so on and so forth. Anything that can swap out

Gonna be a 350 or possibly a 383, haven't made a final decision yet. I have a good electronic ignition but plan to go with a different intake. Not sure about the cam, something mild to be sure but not sure if they will innerchange with the 350 or not. ALso looking at maybe going to a thinner head gasket and maybe get a bit more compression out of it.
