Yes the tubes will slide over (i think the seat has to be back or the box unbolted but it can be done) The original big cast iron auto in the 57 mounted to the side of the trans by the starter.The new trans mounts by the tail shaft.If you use the stock front mount for the motor it will have NO support in the middle and the trans housings crack(many times).So what you will be looking for is a side motor mount kit(i dont know who to tell you has a good one as i make my own stuff in our shop) I do know if you want to go to a HEI dist you will want to mount the motor ahead of stock about 1 inch or so.Hope this helps a little ,sorry i cant help with kits as i make all are stuff. Oh and yes the 74 motor will have the place for side mounts ,i think that started in 58 maybe????
