Changing from a GM305 to Acrate GM350

I am upgrading a 1987 chevy silverado 1500 from a Original 305 TBI to a stock chevy 350 TBI crate motor. Do I neeed to do anything with the ECU computer, or will it work with the 350? Also I'm using the same Throttle body carb, do I need to up grade the injectors? THANKS TO ANYONE WITH HELP.....TERRY

That's only a good swap if your 305 is shot and the 350 is free. You should get the proper ecu and throttle body but bumping your fuel pressure up a little may be adequate.

305 vs 350???

AP, thanks for the info. This is a buddy of mines' truck and he had allready bought the motor. But the 305 has a slight knock,(sounds like a wrist pin to me). I'M JUST CHANGING IT OUT FOR HIM. Is the 305 worth keeping?
He told me I could have it for $50.00 if I wanted it. I've heard that the 305 heads are fairly good head for a mild build,?????? tHANKS FOR ANY REPLY FROM ANYONE.....LAKOTA

i like 305's. mercruiser marine had a solid dead reliable production boat engine setup using 5.0 vortec roller engine with throttle body injection using an airgap intake making 300 hp at 4400 rpm. must be good for something.

There's a good chance the heads are the dreaded swirl ports. Check the casting number to be sure, but they were used on 1987-up TBI trucks. Good for bottom end torque and not a whole lot more. Also the engine prollably has a flat tappet cam, not the more desirable factory hydraulic roller setup.

Some info on ID'ing the engine by casting numbers, date code, suffix, etc. is here.
