Changing Interior Color

I have black leather interior and i found at pep boys vinyl dye. I was wondering if i could change black interior to white. Also could i use the vinyl dye on leather seats or would i have to get a different product. Thanx!

Hmm that product is ok if you plan on getting the seats upholstered in the future. After time and time of sitting on the seats it will require toach up and might peel up. The stuff is kinda dull to. FOr the price it is well worth it though and maybe armor all might give it a lil spunk after painted white. Good luck, Chris

Black to white? I don't think so, mayby the other way. There is no way you are going to change black leather to white and have it look half way decent IMO.

That stuff should coat leather id read on the back of the can. I made my tan interior in my pinto white. The stuff is dull like I said 1st id ty it on a small area to see if you like it. Converting black interior to white would be no prob but it might look dull. For the price though this stuff is great. Maybe a little armor will make it look a whole lot better. Sup to you

Lavapants, check out this thread, it should answer your question.
(Next time read a little further, someone just asked the same question in this same forum a couple of weeks ago.)

Ooooops!! Chuck forgot to log out again.

Just wanted to add one thing. I agree with 302/Z28, I don't think a change from black to white will turn out quite the way you expect it to. I would test a small area first and leave if for ahwile, to see how it wears. Chris, I'm sure your interior colour change worked out fine, but remember you changed from TAN to white, which isn't that far of a stretch, black is a whole other story.

Changing a dark colour to a light colour is a VERY touchy proposition. There's always some bleeding of the old colour into the new, and you may end up with a hybrid colour that isn't so desirable.:surprised

Check if there's a way to contact the manufacturer on the dye container (and email address or a 1-800 #?). Write it down and give them call before spending your hard earned $$$$ on something you aren't sure of.

Hey lava if you do use the stuff let us know how it came out. From my experience the stuff is more like a flexible spraypaint then it is a actual dye, but ya never know. Hope it comes out nice, Chris
