My '86 chevy k15 4x4 plow truck developed a strong gasoline oder during the last storm. Gas was puddling on the intake manifold and the vent line going from canister to clean side of the aircleaner was disconnected(not the line from floatbowl vent to canister). I reconnected it and the smell went away,...but the truck intermitantly started to flood out. I found one of the two wires that go to the top of the carb (qjet) chewed thru by mice and repaired it, but it continues to occasionally load up and stall. The odd thig is that at one point when I had the hood up,the gasoline smell was of OLD(very old) gas.Could one of the small diaphrams that are on the top of the canister be malfunctioning and be allowing gas to belch into the aircleaner via the vent line? Any help would be appreciated.
