Charcoal Canister Question

I installed a new chrome inlet in the intake last night on the ride, I did not have provision on the new inlet for the temp controlled vacuum switch that was in the old one. I would like to eliminate the extra hoses if possible. The switch controlled the vacuum to the charcoal canister, the source for the vacuum is the air pump. Can I just hook the air pump direct to the canister without the switch? Will that cause the pump to draw fuel up into the canister and or cause too much vacuum in the tanks?
