Post Charging problem

Ok here's the deal. I don't think I'm getting a proper charge on my battery. I test across the post of my new Optima red top and get 10v. Start the Bronco and get 10v. I had the original alt that I suspected was the problem so I went down and had it tested and it was producing 10.5 volts. Great reason for a new alt. So I get a new alt. and install it. It's a Summit one wire internally regulated alt. Start the Bronco and now I get 11v across the posts while running. I should be in the 14v range right? What could the trouble be? I don't want to kill my new battery. I wonder if there is a problem with my volt meter...

Is it a mechanical or elcetronic meter? Some mechanical meters are ran off of an internal battery and maybe, just maybe the battery is going dead??? I dunno, just a suggestion. Take it down to a parts store with a meter that checks everything and let them see if they get the same thing. Steve
