If it is a 10Si alternator then Battery connectoin goes to the large lug on the back of the Alternator and a switched feed goes to the #2 lug on the connector, the #1 lug is for the idiot light.

This is what he is looking for. " i would like to check and make sure my wiring is hooked up right. standard alternator with internal reg. can someone help with schematic" OK...I used the search function on this site and keyed in GM alternator wireing...It took me to this 350 Chevy Alternator setup Click on it .... Its straight from Doc telling how to wire it.

I found this one in the archives maybe it will help.............................................. .................................................. ......................Here is a 70~ish Charge system..No AMP gauge, (idiot lamp or volt meter) , and internally regulated..Assuming this is what you have..

Wires up this way:
The Large RED goes to the Battery Terminal on the Starter Via a proper Fuse link.
The BROWN wire goes to the Idiot light or Volt meter, (Amp gauge hooks up differently)
RED 2 goes to 12 Volt switched source.
