[i want to learn]

i have a 56 chevy truck with 327 small block. wouldnt fire a couple of weeks ago, thanks to you guys and this website thats not a problem any more. my problem now , after charging my battery my volt guage slowly dropps to the point where when i shut the engine off it will not start. i would like to check and make sure my wiring is hooked up right. standard alternator with internal reg. can someone help with schematic, or tips that i can check in my garage before going back and forth to auto parts store. i am a rookie at this but i love it . i digg trouble shooting and fixing. i just need to know how to go about it. if you need more info. just ask i will provide. thanks..

How many wires does the alternator have going to it?

A little more info would be helpfull.

If it is a 10Si alternator then Battery connectoin goes to the large lug on the back of the Alternator and a switched feed goes to the #2 lug on the connector, the #1 lug is for the idiot light.

Its straight from Doc telling how to wire it.

That post is for an external regulated alternator, he said his is internal.

I found this one in the archives maybe it will help.............................................. .................................................. ......................Here is a 70~ish Charge system..No AMP gauge, (idiot lamp or volt meter) , and internally regulated..Assuming this is what you have..



Wires up this way:
The Large RED goes to the Battery Terminal on the Starter Via a proper Fuse link.
The BROWN wire goes to the Idiot light or Volt meter, (Amp gauge hooks up differently)
RED 2 goes to 12 Volt switched source.
