Chassis # help please
2 Attachment(s)
I have an X style frame with the numbers C1840392 stamped down the drivers side....I was told the frame was a 1938 plymouth coupe....I found out the front clip was from a 1938 Desoto. I am going to try to get this veh registered after the restoration is complete and need to know what the fram is.

hi i looked around the internet with your numbers and the only thing that came up was 65 to 70 caddy.

I typed a 1 instead of an I
I relooked at the number....upon closer inspection the number is CI840392
I'm pretty sure Cadillac didn't use an X style frame.....but I'm not 100% sure. If anyone can narrow this down that would be great.
I am also trying to figure out whatengine I have....the casting number is 3970010 on rear of engine dr side....on the pad in front of the pass. head is T5F505426 V1218TYZ pretty sure it's a chevy 350 but thats all I can come up with...I would like to know the year 2 or 4 bolt main ect.

The laws on this vary greatly and not knowing your state doesn't help. You can go to SEMA action network and check state by state for your requirements. I bought my old '47 Ford out of a field with no title. I found a title from a title vendor in Arkansas for a '48. Since the number on the frame was illegible and eventually got ground and filled during the build, I had some stamped plates made up with the number from the '48 title. This satisfied the TX DPS and I got a new '48 title in my name.

What are you working on / building? Also, for a safety factor, your steering idler arm bracket is not mounted to anything too strong. I would be very scared of that one. You need more support since so much has been cut off. Are you reading a number on the original frame part or the subframe that was put on?
