Cheapest 9" rear discs

I was wondering if anyone had a supplier for some cheap rear disc conversions for a ford 9 inch (small bearing)?

9 inch disc conversion.

The Granada ESS available in Canada is the same car as the Lincoln Versailles, if you can find one or the other your set.

hmmm

may have to come into the peg and search around for a lincon, i was gonna try the ssbc swap that includes brackets and everything, but at $600?

all you need to do is fab up some brackets to encoporate the discs on a non-disc rear right? just a flat plate with holes drilled

The cheapest and best way to convert (in my opinion) is MARK VII rear discs. You can find them at a donor yard fairly easily and the mounting bracket kits are readily available.

rear disc 9 inch

The Mark 7 disc rears I see are front wheel drive Lincolns. In other words : rear has no chunk . Is this the car that I take calipers ,rotors etc. off of , and then buy the bracket kit from Ultra-Stang ? because I have been passing up these type of brakes because they are on front wheel drive cars . Also same question on Cadilac front wheel drive cars can I use any of the components brakes to use on GM rear conversions? or do I just collect brake components off of the Cad. rear disc rears that have the chunks . What Im saying is : I pass up a lot of cars with rear disk brakes because they have front wheel drive ; is there a way to use these parts? Example : today at the scrap yard there is a late model Crown Victoria ( this one is rear drive) is there a way to use any of these parts on the nine inch rears? also looks to have new aluminum calipers ! seems a waste. Thanks

The MARK VII is RWD two door LINCOLN, similiar in appearance to a FOX BIRD. These are plentiful and the same setup is found on SVO MUSTANGS and TURBO COUPES. Just try to find a non-ABS setup.

The FWD is a CONTINENTAL and I have no information as to whether they could be used. If the rotor size is at least 11", you would have to fabricate mounting brackets. Same on the CROWN/MARQUIS/TOWN CAR. I will have to research these systems a little further.

As for GM/CADILLAC applications, I have suddenly lost my ISP connection...

CORRECTION/UPDATE

0430 EST

(Damn insomnia is killing me... )

This brake system is also found on the LINCOLN CONTINENTAL RWD (Four Door) 1982/87.

The CONTINENTAL went to a FWD model based on the TAURUS platform in 1988.

So actually, you have two easy sources.

The LINCOLN VERSAILLE (also some GRANADA/MONARCH) rear disc have the mounting bracket welded to the axle tube end and complete axle housing (9") changeover is the easiest way out of that one.

The CROWN setup is very interesting. If the 8.8" axle ends have the same mounting pattern as one of the earlier 9", then changeover shouldn't be that difficult.

cheap disc 9 inch

I could have swore the Mark 7 I saw with rear disc was FWD ; that is why I didnt get the brake because I didnt think they were the right ones, but Im probably mistaken. The Mark 7s are not plentiful around here. All I find is the old Lincolns ( I guess late 70s or early 80s I dont know the years. , and beginning to see the Marquis and LTDs with rear disc. Of course nearly everything is coming out with rear disc now. The problem with the old lincolns is that you have to have the bearings pressed off to get the caliper brackets ; no problem with the Gm Cad. etc. because of c-clips you can take them off by hand. Im going to try some Lincoln disc on this 59 Ranchero 9 inch ( one Lincoln has the small axle flange the other has large , and seems to me both cars looked alike! I dont know what a machine shop charges to press the bearings off ; a friend has the axles at his shop now for about 3 months! One more question this Ranchero rear comes with 28 slines , and all I can find is 31 sline truck rears with posi. , where or how do I get a posi in there with out big bucks ? Change side bearings in chunk?

Are you talking about the VERSAILLES (intermediate) or the larger Mark V series? Open the doors and see if you can get the years off the sticker.

I think you will do better to find (or have a yard to find you) a set of MARK VII/early CONTINENTAL rear disc assemblies. The mounting kit is already fabbed (and reasonable) and you just hang them. Don't forget, the tube end bolt pattern is different between the 7.5"/8.8" and 9" FORDS.

As for finding a EQUA-LOC or TRACTION-LOC for the 59 housing, read this tech article (and referring URL's at end of article) to familiarize yourself with different 9" components and what you will need to look for in a yard or swap meet.

Let us know how it turns out.

9 inch disc

Hi and thanks for advise , I do have two 9 inch rears from the large Lincolns and one has small end flange and the other has large ( this is the one Im going to try on the 59 rear) . What do you mean just hang them ? The rears I have : part of the caliper bracket assembly is not coming off until the end bearing is removed : it is two pieces . I dont know all the Mark V and v11 stuff but I understand it means certain year models . Are you saying that you just unbolt brackets off Lincoln and hang(bolt to other rear)? I havent seen any like that except Gm products. The places around here wont sell just the brackets because they say : they cant sell the rear without them. So I buy the whole thing . I understand about posis and all that ; Ive read all the 9 inch info; but was wondering if anyone might have any suggestions on beefing up or option on this old 59 rear . Thanks Mike

Unhappy

I am sorry musky...I was confusing you with FAIRLANE DUDE.

The rears you are talking about must be from a late seventies LINCOLN and I have no experience with them. What I was describing is a set of after market brackets that will allow you to hang the later LINCOLN rear disc (eighties).
