Check Balls In The 4l60e ?

I received two packets of TORLON PLASTIC CHECK BALL for my rebuild.

The smaller sized check 0.25" and the larger 0.312", as I wasn't sure what I need when i first ordered.

Let see if i get this right. the 4l60e has 10 check balls.
- 2 are in capsules in the case ( #9 and #10)
- one free in the case ( #8)
- 7 in the valve body (#1 to #7).

Questions:
1. Should i replace all #1 to #8 checkballs with the Torlon 0.25" check balls ?
2. When do you use the oversized torlon checkballs in the 4L60e ? is it only on worn valve body plates?

Hope someone can help !

Worn Spacer Plate

There is 1-ball that is larger that others! and if kit included enough balls, would figure they wanted you to replace em! Also, You can go to a trans shop fro about 20 bucks, get a kit for the well worn ball holes. You drill out worn holes to I think it was 1/4in. then install new hardened C-clip in seats after you file down the drill high spots. The new seats are way cool cause finding a plate on a Saturday is like IMPOSSIBLE ! Kit comes with 5 new seats and c-clips, mine had 3 badly worn plate holes. Was installing a Shift Kit and went Street/Strip for my Chevy S-10 4.3. Great second gear shift, also replaced max fluid with "Trick Shift". This was Last FEB 2010, Still working great! And while your at it, Rear trans seal is A good Idea!

Thanks for the reply.

Maybe i am not making myself clear enough. 8 smaller torlon check balls came with one of the Sonnax kits. I added one additional packet of 10 larger torlon check balls because I knew i had a worn separator plate, so i thought i might need them.
I then ended up getting a new hardened transgo separator plate. Now i have a new plate and 2 sets of checkballs.
The simplest thing would be to use the 8 smaller checkballs to replace all the OEM stainless steel checkballs, right?? (that is the orange and blue circled ones on the diagram.)

You said something about an over-sized checkball ("There is 1-ball that is larger that others!...")
which one on the diagram is it ??
Do I only use the over-sized one here, and on a worn out plate if i had that problem??

Here is an additional picture of the 4L60e valve body checkbalis locations if anyone may need it in the future.

found the info i needed.

So just capping this post off, all check balls are the 0.025" unless you have a worn-out hole in an old separator plate.
