check brake light

Does anybody remember how to re-set the proportioning valve for the brake system? My son had to make a panic stop and now his brake light stays on. Seems to me that there was a way to re-set them> Anybody know??

I think you will have to crack the RR wheel bleader and have your son push the pedal to the floor and hold it untill the bleader is closed. If that does not fix it let me know and I will ask my Grandfather. I know I have heared him talk about it but never had to do it myself so I am not 100% certain. I do know that pleading the right rear wheel will not hurt anything so try it.

Do the brakes feel any different than before the panic stop? if the prop valve needs to be reseated then you would think the brakes would feel funny or different. Are you sure it isnt just the brake light switch out of adjustment?

Naw it's not the actual brake lights it's the idiot lite on the dash "check brakes". The brakes feel fine, just need to re-set the "switch in the proportioning valve, I think.

go to the proportioning valve-disconnect the wire, then un- screw the fitting the wire was connected to-recenter the pin and look to see if the notch in the shaft is in the center--if not reposition the shaft then re assemble---Paulweldit

This does the same thing as Pauls suggestion, have one person sit in the car while you bleed the brakes, it doesn't matter left or right. Have your helper only gently push the pedal until the light goes out. You will need to bleed opposite the end you did last.
