I agree with cobalt, narrow pattern is best with some regard to pattern position. I'ts ok to have it on the outboard side of the valve tip providing its not too close to the edge. Shortening the pushrod in this case to get it to the center will only widen the pattern and increase outboard sideloading of the guide, create a bad pushrod and cup alignment when the valve is on the seat, and also not transfer the proper cam lobe action to the valve during the lift cycle. The problem is the position of the angles of the stud and valve. There is no industry standard. Even rocker arm distances from fulcrum to pushrod cup and fulcrum to roller tip is different between companies. Think about this, when you change the valve angle say from 23* heads to 17* and the stud angles stays the same the rocker roller tip with move on the valve stem.
