Cherry Bomb Extreme vs Dynomax Race Bullet

Hi all,
This winter I am hoping on changing the sound of my car. I had a new header back flowmaster 40 system put on my 1980 Camaro with 2.5 pipes with no cross over. I do not like the sound, its not aggressive enough and isnt loud enough for what I was looking for. I have narrowed my choices down to 3 sounds I liked online watching youtube videos and would like peoples opinions on these as I have never heard them in person. I have a roller cam with vortec heads flowing into Summit ceramic long tube headers.

My three choices are :

1. Cherry Bomb Extreme
2. Flowmaster 10 series
3. Dynomax Race Bullet

While I want loud and aggressive, I do not want raspy and poppy. Any advice is greatly appreciated as always. Thanks Pete

IMO, I don't think you'll get much louder than Flowmaster 40s without it getting raspier/poppier.

From a pure performance standpoint I'd pick the Dynomax Race Bullets but they are LOUD. I've never been around for a before and after to confirm it, but supposedly not much quieter than open headers.

if you want loud get the shortest glass pacts (12 in I know get loud). Get the hot and spray water on them. It destoys the the packing. Another option is to take an old drive shaft and cut it down a legal muffer length, say 24 inches. Weld it in line or better yet so you don't mess up the flow of your exhaust slide it around your exhaust pipe and weld it so it looks like a glass pack. The is very loud. I had a friend the "fixed" everybody exhaust that would let him in ag mech. You could hear him idling 1/8 mile away. His parents heard him doing doughnut in the highway 3 miles away. Although my 12 in glass packs were just as loud at high a revs.

See its not just loud I am going for. I am looking for a quality, low rumble, with as loud as possible without popping unlike some of the newer cars with exhaust sound. I will post a video of my first start so you can hear the car now at the bottom. Hope that makes sense. So what do you think will give me that deep throaty sound, that will sound great and be loud at the same time. Alot of the "loud" exhaust setups sound like that guy that blasts his stock stereo full blast, its loud but its all distorted. Thanks Pete

you could try the smaller flowmasters, but really flowmaster 40s and similar are about as loud as it gets before the sound gets much rawer. try pulling the mufflers all together and see if the tone gets better or worse for you, because anything louder than a set of standard flowmasters are going to get closer to the sounds of straightpipes, in most applications.

Edit: you may also like the sound better with a crossover. Sometimes it makes it louder, sometimes it makes it quieter, but it will change the tone and almost always builds more power.

Getcha some Coffin Mufflers. If you don't like the sound you can bury your Eardrums in them.

Very limited sound clips of these, do you have any firsthand experience. Are these louder than the FLow 40's? Spoke to Elroy the owner on the phone, great guy. He states they are a bit higher tone than the flowmasters, dont know if that is exactly what I am after here. Maybe I should try to dump the mufflers I have first before switching?

Thrush 2 chamber are similar to the flowmasters but louder with a less restrictive sound to them, if that makes sense. I love the sound. Here's a good clip on them on a small block with 3 inch exhaust http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=l-JBXN2pg2U

Should I try to dump these flow 40's 3 inches from the mufflers? My floors are rusted out and have holes if that matters. Or should I just buy the Flow 10's/cherry extremes and keep the tail pipes. Thanks
