OK, I discovered a cherry Mexican block in the shed. What should I do with it?

Ford or Chevy? Ford guys will pay for them as they are stouter block for a H.P. build,not so with the Chevy blocks but I did use one without any problems.

Yeah, it's a Ford and was torn down at very low mileage in good running condition. I have about 30 or 35 Chevy blocks and didn't know there was such a thing as a Mexican Chevy.

Then I guess 347 is the way to go for the Ford? I've never done a 347 and thinking we would never get around to building it so my son sold our trick flow ford heads, and I new ones cost too much for something I'm not interested in for myself.

I was thinking 302 or 327 with GT40s? Or maybe I can work up the GT40 heads to handle the 347? Cut a lot of Chevy heads but never a Ford so don't know potential..

Yeah They are supposed to be the best factory small block in a Ford. I don't know the nickel content and all that but rumored to be better, but the main caps(2bolt all) are very heavy. The Ford guys are nuts over 'um, and they are hard to find. Couple of guys have come in the shop begging and holding out enough hundreds to buy 3 or 4 0010 cores. I was thinking of keeping it because it would be an easier fit in my Amigo than what we build.

Just a Mexican block.. I described it as "Cherry",, given that it doesn't look as though it's ever been run>>> perfect STD cylinders, measuring 4.000" ..
Cherry use to be an old Southern Expression for fresh, new, unblemished, nos, like that. I guess the best case would be 347 and it doesn't seem worth the effort to build a stroker just to have something on the order of a 350, besides I read an article where a guy did a fairly good install of a 383 in the same Amigo I have.

Ford had to raise deck height on the 351 for a reason- that displacement is too much for that deck height. Go 327-ish or 302-ish. The problems are not worth the reward. On the heads- you can work them up and get decent numbers but nothing that'll make serious power. Since it only costs your time it may be a good option though. I guess the next question will be "roller or flat tappet?". If its a budget deal go solid flat tappet, ford allows for some decent flat tappet profiles anyway.

Yeah, I guess I'll stick to the 0010 and 638 blocks. They seem more American, Almost Southern!

No P.C. PUL-EASE! Actually "Cherry" has been around since before the 60's,verse from old an Chuck Berry song "Cherry" Red '53" we used that to describe a cool well done ride or something that was in like new condition back in the day in Minnesota and Illinois where I grew up, it wasn't just a "Southern Thang"

OK, Technically I more correct the first time; just hadn't come to me as to why.

It's not Mint because it's been "out there". But it has not been "Bored" so it's still "Cherry" <<<<How bout that? Malc wins this round!!
