68-72 A-body seat frames are all the same. The only difference is headrests, which were optional in 68 and federally mandated for 69-72.

That is great. So it is not a problem using the 68 seat frame and redoing it to match the 72 interior. If The only differences is headrests this should all be simple.

If the headrests were optional in 1968, the mechanism for holding them in place should be attached to the seat frames already, and all you'll need is the headrests that go with your '72. Good luck.
