any reason not to use my spare 305
from the cutlass in the 92 tbird ?

Sure, just one. Compatability. You CAN do it, but you will go crazy with custom this and custom that. I've made a lot of money doing for folks what you are about to do. So break open the wallet, gather all your spare time, and have at it. Personally, I'd try to get the correct engine, it will take less time and work in the end.

Also, it is not compatible with Ford Dust and will go kaput.

+3. Sounds like an exercise in frustration for no gain unless you have the facilities, money and time to burn.

One of the rules I adopted, even before I reached this ripe old age, is to figure out how I'm gonna sell it before I do it.

agreed. the 305 is a very generic engine with a limited power potential. Until you spend the big bucks to put it in there, its like installing a Hyundai engine in a Bentley. It can be done, but you've just spent thousands to install it and at the same time reduced the value of the Tbird to pretty much zero.
