Chevy #193 heads....Your thoughts..

What do you guys think of these heads. Cast #193 (14102193) , are they any good?

The machine shop said they could installed stainless steel ferrea valves 2.02in and 1.6ex, with a 3 angle valve job and some porting. Do you guys think these heads are worth all this effort?

I'm I better off looking for another set of heads?

Thanks

I wouldn`t invest that much in them, since they are a light casting head. but that`s just my opinion.

193 are swirl port efi heads used on many trucks. If you look in the bowl area they have a big swirl vane thing. For performance, they aren't very good. I wouldn't put much $ into them.

Thanks.

Only $60 to check them and a valve job. Might just get that done until I'm ready for a good set.

Do you think $60 is too much?

Thank for your input.

That's half what I charge for a valve job. Knowing what we do for the money we charge, I wonder what all you are getting for 60 bucks. You get what you pay for.

If you are going to build an engine that will see no more that 4500 rpms and want some low-end torque with a mild cam and 9:1 compression or so, the heads will be ok. For any other purpose, they aren't the hot ticket.

Thanks, I'll try to find a better set.

Was going to use Edelbrock performer intake with a edelbrocck 600 cfm carb. Then headers.

Thanks again.

Poor Mans Delight

Check the bone yards. I just purchased a set of Vortec heads for $150. Clean them up and get a valve job. The guy even had fuely or humpheads as we call them. $250 a pair. Hard to go wrong.

Professional opinion:

Great on a small-cube engine where you're trying to make torque and will never rev above 4000. Otherwise they're not worth spending money on.
