This does help for a search! Yes, I now it's a 12 year old post with the last update almost 2 years ago. However, I'm trying to plan a 229 Chevy build-up of my own. It will be for either a 78-81 Malibu or 81-84 Monte. My goal is somewhere in the 250-300 horse range, and any bit of information is a help!

Any reason you don't want to at least use a roller cam 4.3L V6?

If you're determined to build the 229, PM me if you need +0.030" pistons.
