chevy 283 rear main seal.

Looking for a alternative to the rear main rope seal on a 283 chevy.We have change the seal 3 times now and can't get it to stop leaking we have tried silicone on the side and it didn't help.First time seal was change the motor was out being rebuilt the others motor in car pulled trans.My brother has built many motor and we have never had a problem like this.Please Help any idea or comments are welcome.

If you cannot find the rubber one give me a call i have one left.It replaces the rope seal...

I think i got it from a 55/57 resto mag..

Just something that come to mind and it is a long shot but may be worth looking at. IF that crank came out of a left hand marine engine, the little hash marks on the crank to funnel the oil back into the motor. They are backwards on a left hand engine, thus pumping oil out instead of in. A real long shot but I have seen this happen once before.
