The 292 fly wheel bolt holes are the wrong size ! The 292 isn't like other Chevy sixes, most of them used 1/2" flywheel bolts (instead of 7/16") and three dowels. As for what small block it depends on weather it internally balanced or external even if its adaptable. The starter must also match the diameter of the fly wheel.

Yes,the 292 has the same bell housing bolt pattern as all later Chevy v8s,small & big blocks.
