kinda hard to find a t-61,64,66 for a reasonable price. $948 bucks for a t_66. and only 200 bucks for a BRAND new t70, it has a 60.5 mm compressor wheel. sounds like i have a cat in the hat here.

By the price it sounds like your looking at a china turbo. Just be careful with those its hit or miss. Just make sure you break it in properly because most of the ones that do fail, fail within the first 100 miles and looks like no oil in them or the oil seals blow out.

you need to give us more details.

gear ratio, trans, stall, intended use

For example, if you intend to use a 3.08 gear with a stock trans and converter then you need to use a small turbo with little lag. This will have a restrictive turbine for quick spools so you need to use a small cam with very little overlap. No don't want overlap with a small turbo because the manifold pressure will be higher than the intake pressure and you don't want reversions. So a cam with 208 on the intake, 200 on the exhaust, with 114 to 116 LSA would work well.

Let say you build a 305 with 275hp. Then multiply by the pressure ratio to see how much power it will make on boost. So using 10psi the pressure ratio is (14.7 + 10)/14.7 = 1.68. 275hp x 1.68 is 462hp. The torque multiplies the same way.

So the power you start out with before boost is very important to make
power on boost.

Ok, back to the 275hp 305. This will take a good set of heads and a little cam like I described above.

You cam also use a single T04B 62-1 to make 460hp with a 305
or 2 T3's from a 280zx. These are little turbos with build on wastgates that make boost from 2500 to 5000 on a 168 cid engine (2.8 liter). I get them for 40.00 each from pick-n-pull type junk yards. You can use the website to see the compressor map but use 1/2 the hp and 1/2 the engine cid to read the graph.

cast pistons are fine if you use low cr and keep the boost under 12 psi and don't detonate. I would use a cr around 7.5:1.

chevy 305 stock,ported polished, Holset H1E turbo

3.08 rear gear
2.20 1rst
1.64 2nd
1.28 3rd
1-1 4th
2.27 reverse
31 inch tires 30 installed height.(thinking of going with a shorter tire on these 10inch rims a 295-40 -15).

So if i buy the chinese one i`d have to make sure to pump up the oil pump before starting the engine. Start it and not rev it at all?? i heard this on a breaking of turbo`s somewhere.

What if i take the truck and get it dynoed and go from there?

not sure about cheap "new" turbos. Never used one before.

Sounds like you need some low rpm power and you want to do it cheap. So, I would get a set of T3 super 60's from a 280zx turbo. They come with an external waste gate set at 7 to 8 psi and you can get them cheap. As long as the end play isn't much they work great. Like I said earlier, you can get those in a junk yard for 40.00 each or spend 100 for a used one that is already off the car. Even has a nice down pipe that you can use. Then just plumb them into your carb. No IC needed. good for 50% power increase in both torque and hp. So it converts your smogger 305 into a smogger 454.
