Post chevy 350 making weird noises.

Hey, just recently rebuilt a 350 with a mild cam, stock pistons with new rings and new bearings, using 305 heads. The engine under light acceleration makes a strange sorta rattle noise, sorta like a high pitched metal rattle sound, i don't think it is pinging, but really not sure what pinging sounds like, under heavy acceleration the noise is gone. Sounds like some sort of valve train noise. but not a lifter or anything like that. any suggestions??

Steve

it likely is pinging, 305 heads on a 350 shot the compression up to 10:1, you may want to slow down the timing, see if it goes away, if not, look elsewhere, check the valvetrain, make sure the rockers are in adjustment.

i'm running premium gas and an octane boost but i guess it could still be pinging. it does not sound like a valve train noise though, it's not a clicking noise, it like a metal rattle sound? what does pinging sound like?

Yea it be pinging.lol
I had your same setup. You really gotta wtch your timing or it'll ping like a mother. Also watch your temp I went from no stat to a 180 and it seemed to run worse.
Also I seemed to get better performance with R44TS Delco plugs instead of stock R45TS's.
Hope this all helps
