Go to the Painless web site and take a look at the most basic harness they make. Select the manual and read it.
You should then have an idea of how to proceed.
Painless makes many different harnesses. Some are designed for early Jeeps.
It is important to understand that the early Jeeps used parts from the 3 majors so wire colors are varied.
As far as the crate engine is concerned all you need is S I A G.
Start, Ignition, Alternator, Gauges.
