Chevy '47 216 crank replacement

I have a new '47 216 that I'm going to convert to a full oil pressure system. I have all of the information but my Machinist asked me if I knew a '54 Chevy 235 crank would fit in my block if the third journal was turned down .030. Does anyone have any information about this? The metallurgy in the later cranks is certainly much better plus the costs of drilling the 216 crank and turning down some bearing journals. I'm committed to the project. I have an old original '32 Chevy that this will go into and be my daily driver.

There is a lot more to do than just turning the journal. It's not worth the trouble. First you will have to do away with the troughs in the 216 oil pan, or find a 53 oil pan without them. A 53 PG or a 54 228 GMC oil pump will work with no modification. When you use the 235 crank in the 216 block, the pistons will stick up about 3/32" above the block so there is a machining operation or custom pistons, quite expensive. The crank needs to be machined at the thrust bearing to get the crank to fit. The rods will need to be re-sized to get them to fit the journals. Just get a 1955 & up 235 & put it in.

I didn't think it was going to be as simple as my source told me. I've built a lot of sixes in my life and had never heard this one before. That is why I came to this forum to ask for some adivice from some well versed old hands.

Highball, I realize this is an old thread but what happened to your project to convert the '47 216 to full oil pressure. The reason I ask is I'm thinking of doing the same with my '49 216. Do you still have the info that you were talking about?
