Chevy 5.3 V8 Small Block Engine 4l60e Trans

CHEVY 5.3 V8 SMALL BLOCK ENGINE 4L60E TRANS. Will this combo fit in a 1931 ford chassis and if so what things to I need to update if any. I have a line on this set and would like to know if this is something I should get.

It all depends on what you call FIT
The 5.3 and the 4L60E will go in a Model A .....the 5.3 is the same basic size as the standard stand by 283-327-350 SBC and a 4L60E is just a upgraded 700R4 for most purposes.

This is a 350 with a 700R4 in a 32 Ford chassis.

The Model A is a little more narrow and a little shorter in the engine area. SO......the 5.3 and the 4L60E will go but it will require some " standard street rod modifications " The firewall will need modifying. You will need to do a good bit of wiring and a fuel supply ( high pressure ) .....after you get the engine/transmission mounting issues worked out.......so YES.....it will go in.... and NO.....it is not just a simple bolt in...

repost info

I should mention I have a after market chassis that was set up for a SBC and a 400 trans. I was wondering if the newer engine trans combo would fit. I have a line on an engine on Ebay see the link below. I know I will need a painless or other wire harness etc.

Well from my experiences with trying to fit a 6.0 liter ( has the same block as the 5.3) in to my chevelle.
A couple things that i have learned is

1)It's about the same size as the old sbc. If you already set up to put in the old sbc the new one will go in pretty easy.

2)The things that i was running in to do my swap was to get the computer and have it reprogrammed. The computer was going to be about $300 and the reprogram was going to be about $600.

3)The next question for my self was if i just wanted to get the software and do the reprogram my self for about $1000. (Just thought that it would be nice to be able to tune my car when i wanted.)

4)The harness was going to cost me $700 and that was a painless harness.

5)Motor mounts adapters have to be made up out of some plate steel. You could buy them, but that was out of my budget.

6)Another thing was to make my original mechanical spedo work with the computer controlled trany. There I found out from that i could get a converter to convert the electrical to mechanical http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/hot/ or i could change out the tail shaft to a mechanical one Shift work.

7)Then there was the fuel pump that was needed. I decided that i would go with one that mounted outside the tank just for the ease of install.

That is about all i can think of right now . Hope I didn't scare you off the idea. Seeing this list kinda makes me sad that i sold the engine and tranny after all this leg work, but he made me a offer i couldn't refuse so i didn't.

If I Think of anything else I'll put it up. Or if you have a question ask.
John

Check Jesse Bubb out at http://www.wait4meperformance.com/. He will flash your PCM for $75 or you can buy one outright for $150.

You should be OK.....the main problem I see is the possible interference with the 700R4 pan/case on the passenger side. The 700R4 has a kick out of sorts....I have a 32 Ford with a 400 Turbo ......in my Roadster and a 700R4 would go right in my chassis but when I did the chassis many years ago......there were no 700R4's...I just got lucky.....

The attached photo is of how I fix my transmission crossmembers. My new 3W and the old 32 Roadster are both this way. The frame is sitting in a jig so some of the iron rails you se are not on the frame..there is nothing to interfere with the sides of the transmission.

DEUCE....

That is a good deal. That price I put up was for my local area. Try and keep the local guys alive, but with that type of price difference it's hard to. A little dealing might be neede

Edelbrock makes a carb intake for 346ci LS1s, and understanding that the 5.3 (327) and 6.0 (362) are very similar with each other, that intake manifold should fit. I'd check with Edelbrock's tech people first.
