Chevy 5.7 TPI

i have a chevy 1991 5.7 tbi motor that i have and going to put a 1987 TPI setup on it They said that the year from 1986 to 1992 is the same . is it ??. I have a chance to buy a tpi intake fuel rails, runners and plennum set up for 9th injector everthing is polished. off a chevy 1985 5.7 will this set up work?

Only difference I've ever heard about in those TPI's was the 9th injector for cold starting, I know that on some vehicles that 9th injector was not there, and that instead all 8 injectors fired a 'prime' shot for cold starting, but I don't know when and what...I also recall reading about some minor difference between corvette and camaro TPI setups, perhaps something to do with fuel inlets being on different sides? I can't recall...

But, as long as you have the whole TPI setup, you should be set.

In 87' they changed the center intake bolt angle on the heads. 85-86 TPI's will work on older heads. 87-Later will have to be machined (fairly simple to have done) to work on the early style heads.

this is very true

but i would go on e-bay and find a tpi intake manifold of a '85-'86 corvette this will bolt right on and will let a little more air through

A TPI intake from an 85'-86' Corvette has traditional 90* bolt angles. The 91' TBI engine he wants to put the TPI intake on has canted intake bolt angles for the four center holes (Can't remember the revised angle). See below:

Furthermore, why would he do that, everything is polished?

Question for Hotrod1935: Please clarify, is the TPI from 1987 or 1985? If 1987 (non-Corvette aluminum head), it will bolt on to the 91' heads without modification. If from pre-87' or an aluminum head Corvette TPI, you will have to have the four center bolt holes modified for the canted holes in the 91' heads.

Best of luck, Ed www.edgesz28.com

i don't like the idea of putting a stock tpi on a 350 since the tpi was originally designed for a engine that was 45 cubic inches smaller
