Chevy 8.2 Pinion Nut

I picked up a 10-bolt 3.08 rear end for my '72 El Camino, to replace the 3.55 that's killing me gas-wise in town.

Anyway, the yoke was off. When I went to install the pinion nut I noticed the threads on the pinion were slightly damaged and I can't get the nut on. It looks to be 7/8" by 16 pitch.

Can anyone confirm that? I may need to use a die on the threads if I can't clean them up.

If you can't find a die that size, try using a thread file. Any good tool store should have a set. They come in standard, metric, hydraulic, and pipe threads.Used carefully you should be able to clean the threads. They are great for those manufacturer proprietary items.
