Chevy AD truck steering column question

I'm at the point where I need to start thinking about my steering setup in my 50 Chevy truck. Here's what I have:
1: Original straight axle.
2: V8 with headers severely crowding the original column location.
3: A '70 Chevy truck power steering box. (also have column)
4: Hoping to use my 61 Corvair steering wheel, or other early 60's GM wheel.
I realize I'm going to have to mount the steering box on the outside of the frame, and will not be able to retain a 1-piece column. My choices appear to be:
A: I could cut the '70 column so it just pokes out of the firewall, then buying from Borgeson ( or someone else ) several short shaft pieces, and other nessesary parts to route the steering to the outside of the frame down to the steering box.
B: Buy a short (26" or so) column from Ididit and do the same. I don't mind paying the extra price if it means simplifying the process. I'm not too keen or clear on how to make a cut column mate up with the new shafts.
Regarding the steering wheel, I don't know what it would take to make an Ididit column take a 60's era steering wheel.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Ididit columns are nice, for sure. It's YOUR wallet.

I *think* your '70 column is splined? There are u-joints to fit these. And I believe there are u-joints to fit the steering box splines as well. If all you need is two u-joints then you don't need to support the shaft between the two joints as long as it's not so short that it runs the u-joints into a bind.

I do know that when using two u-joints, mock things up and phase the joints correctly before you weld it up permanently.

Another thing, It's a good idea to use a telescoping section of shaft also if you are doing away with the rag joint.
