Chevy Big block 454 into 69 Mustang???

Hi Everyone, ok heres the deal. i got a 79 custom 20 chevy truck for free from my boss at work its a hauling truck . it runs good everything and i was wondering if i can swap the 454 (i belive thats what it is) engine into a 69 mustang coupe. my dad is a welder and he can weld custom stuff , but i was wondering if its even worth swapping it? and i will need a 4 or 5 speed manual transmition and any suggesstions on that? thanks

you will not be able to fit it properly between the inner fenders, the best way in my oppinion would be to find a camaro/firebird front frame and weld that in place of the mustang front suspension, that way your chevy engine and tranny would just bolt up.

Arrow

Acraully it will fit(although you'd have to be sick to do it,LOL),I've seen a few swapped into '65-'66 'stangs and the '67-'70 have much more room. I believe the 428 is actually broader than the Chebby.

Roman,
Welcome to Hotrodders Bulletin Board! Anything can be done if the desire is strong enough! Best bet is to find a good Muncie or T-10 four speed and drop in the whole works. Motor mounts and transmission crossmember will need to be fabricated, but Pop should be able to weld them up for you. The only thing that will be a major problem is the oil pan. The Ford engine had distributor at the front of the engine, hence oil pump and sump at the front of the case, instead of at the rear like the Chevrolet. You would need to build a special oil pan with the sump in front, then design a pickup tube to run to the front of the engine. This could get pretty sticky. Your best bet might be to sell the truck and use the $$$ to build a healthy 351C!

As a Mustang owner

I find this quite objectionable.
But, It's your car, so it's up to you.
You can easily do this bastardization utilizing a Mustang II kit .
rcmotorsports.net is where I got mine.

Like everyone has said, it can be done with the right planning and know how. Now I'm a Chevy guy all the way, but I personally don't think the time and sweat invested into it will be worth all the controversy you'll get from it unless you are planning on making it an all out race car or something...just my .02
