Chevy engine

does anyone know the differences between the 265 & the 283 chevy engine, parts wise, i just bought a 57 chevy 210, but dont know the exact size engine. i found a serial # on the door, but can't fine a plate on the firewall that describes the car as far as color, size engine & ETC,

Externally the same. Copy the cast in number on the belhousing behind the driver side head. Then go to www.Mortec.com

Not many 265s in 57 Chevys. Chevy copied Ford by using up all the left over prior year stuff in the early stages of new year production. Most of the 265 motors were gone before Christmas 56.

Check the bore...That's the only real difference between a 265 and a '57 283.
'58 and up 283's had provisions for side motor mounts. 265's and '57 283's didn't.
Also, check for the presence of an oil filter mount. Most, if not all 265's didn't have oil filters on the block.
