Chevy fuel pump diaphragm

I bought a high perf fuel pump(SBC) from KMJ and in less than 100 mi. it blew the diaphragm,(leaking out of the breather hole), it has a 1/4 in. tear in it, is there a reason it would blow so fast?, I replaced it with a stock pump but can't use it as the in port hits my lower radiator hose, I have to clock the ports to get them out of the way, anyone know how to replace the diaphragm ?, I found a Holley diaphragm but they want 42 bucks for one, I paid 35 for the whole pump, I guess you get what you pay for...

Did you pack the pump cavity with lube before installing it?
