chevy G-body crossmember

i have a 80' malibu and i am trying to fit it with dual exhaust. has anyone tried building thier own mount and and building it straight across insted of at an angle. if so, what are the measurements i need something different than the $220 dollar G-force crossmember. any info would be helpful!!!

crossmember

I have built 2 of them... I really do not have any measurments recorded tho...

I left the top part of the crossmember intact and just plated the bottom and the sides. If i remember right i made it 4" or 41/2" wide at the top and brought the sides down at maybe a 45 deg angle to match the bottom of the existing crossmember...I use 1/8" thick plate, and welded it all around to keep the water out...
