chevy inline 6 help

Hello,

I just acquired a 58-62 Chevy inline 6. I'm attempting to tear it down and can't figure out how to get the flywheel off. I've removed the bolts but it's not budging. There there is a fair amount of surface rust on it that could be binding it up but I wanted to make sure it's not press fit or something before I go whacking at it with a drift. I want to get it up on the engine stand but I can't until I get the flywheel out of the way.

Thanks for the help. There doesn't seem to be a lot of real good info on these motors available. If anyone has any resources I would really appreciate it.

Chris

Inline 6

Go to Inliners.org. That's a 6 cylinder website.

Hi
Just give it a good whack, it'll come off.

If you're starting on a project that involves an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), then you need the original factory service manual for it. You don't say what the motor is out of, I'm just swingin' in the breeze here....

I have used Faxon for decades. I buy an original service manual for every car or truck that I'm going to work on and have found that there is no substitute for the information available in the originals.

Well it's for a 52 chevy pickup but it didn't come out of it. It's a mystery motor. I don't know anything about its history. I looked up the casting number to get the year range. All I know is that it has been sitting around for at least a few years gathering dust...

What I did to get my flywheel off was cutting 3 long wood wedges and wonce there in place tap 1 and then go to the next one and so on ..and when it lets go its going places so tie it down so it wont hit the floor..
