Chevy Speakers Enclosures
I'm going to install rear speakers in the '67. The original speakers had a cheesy speaker enclosure that apparently was made of cardboard with what looks like jute inside (see pic). The enclosures were held in place with a metal clamp (?) that held onto the speaker magnet.
I can probably duplicate the enclosures, but I was wondering if I could just install a magnet on the inside of the enclosure to hold it to the speaker magnet. Would this affect the speaker? |

Yea you can& Ive seen it in factory applications but ...
Why bother todays stereos & speakers have more power & need more room to breath, if your going for a stock look then OK, but {again} I put a SonyX plode system in my wifes 71 Skylark Just a radio & two 6 by 9's and for just a radio it really kicks. nice clean high's & plenty of room for the bass to expand {in the trunk} I'm not a ricer with more stereo than motor just giving My Humble Opinion& be sides new speakers will probably rattle those old enclosure & the new ones making a very annoying distortion & you wouldn't need a magnet there is one on the speaker . when I come across old/blown speakers then I chop them up for the magnets they come in handy everywhere Rob

They're newer speakers and I was trying for an original look. I was just concerned that the magnets might affect the speakers.
