Chevy TBI problems

I have an 87 350ci TBI motor in my rock krawler im building. It was half way wired and plumbed when I bought it. I finished wiring and plumbing it. When I start it I am getting fuel to the Throttle body but none through the injectors. I wired the fuel pump totally independant with a toggle switch due to the mess the wiring was in.

1.Will it mess up the "thinking" process of the ECU with the fuel pump not being wired through it to where it would not send signal to the injectors ?

2. How do I check and see if Im getting signal to the injectors from the ECU?

Thanks you in advance for any help......Im learning !

See if this helps http://chevythunder.com/ Scroll down to where it says "chevy tbi general information" and start there. It tells of problems with no power to the injectors.
