Chevy Transmission swap

Hey guys, I'm hoping someone could help. I have a 51 Chevy with a 58 235, and a three on the tree, What tranny would fit behind it so that I could still use the driveshaft, and crossmember, I would like to put a four speed in it. Thanks for any advice

Not a 4 speed, but a three speed from a 47 to 54 1/2 ton truck will bolt up to the V8, and to the closed driveshaft.

how about a 5speed

I also have a 235c.i 56Chevy wagon and had a 3 on the tree,A 5 speed will bolt right to the bell housing.I went to the junkyard and found a trans. from a s10 pick-up 1985 to 1988 and pulled it out.The only changes are drive shaft ,clutch and shifter ends up under the front seat.My legs are short,I think if you put you're seat all the way back you'll make it.Any questions please e-mail me.
