Chevy Truck Lover...Transmission options
Hello to All with Knowledge as I am looking for guidance or a recommendation to improve the shifting on my 63 Chevy C10 that is a frame off restoration built on the Frame and Transmission of a 72 Blazer 4 x 4 (Muncie SM465). This truck is a real head-turner but not a joy to drive due to this Tranny / Shifting Options. I have looked for Shift Kits as I don't think any are available.
Would you recommend a conversion to THM 400 or TH 700R4? The Motor is a Crate 350. Thanks, |

Personally, I would go with the 700R4 since it gives you the overdrive, which will save you some gas money when on the highway. Unless of course, you are using this strictly as a four wheel drive vehicle. If this is indeed a street vehicle and a relatively stock 350 engine, a TH 350 would be ample and probably a better bet than the TH400. If the horsepower goes up, the TH400 tranny might be more desireable.
Regarding the 700R4, make sure, and this is a must, make sure that the tranny lockup and vacuum are properly clocked to the carburetor if you are using a carb. Most 700R4 trannies were paired with fuel injected vehicles, so it was not a problem. But, if using a carb and it is not set up correctly, you will burn up the tranny in a hurry.
