Chevy Truck Rear Axle Width

I've got a friend wanting to buy a 6 lug GM 12 truck axle that I have, it measures 64" wide from wms to wms. My buddy is wanting to put it in his 59 Chevy Panel truck, but we don't know what the trucks original wms to wms is . He's got a nice set of wheels & tires on it now & wants to keep them on it. The truck is packed into his garage right now ( the 454 engine is at the machine shop & the TH400 tranny is being rebuilt too ) so pulling the wheels off to measure it is almost impossible. If anybody knows the wms to wms on the 55-59 Chevy/GMCs are I'd appreciate knowing how wide it is.

The 87 GM 10 bolt I have under my 58 is 63 I/2 from backing plate to backing plate. With the wide drum brakes.I used my stock parking brake lines and the same rims and 31x10.5 tires that I used on the stock rearend.Your 12 bolt will work.If you go to the hotrodders lounge you will find a thread "55 to 59 chevy truck owners"You can get answers to just about any question on the 59 panel truck there.Good luck on your project.

Well it looks like the 12 bolt will be close enough to put into the Panel. Thanks for the help!
