Bought a chevy 350 vortec engine to install in my truck. When I started it up there was a noise down in it like a slight knock. It build pressure in the radiator and hoses got really hard on it. Let it run for awhile, shut it off. Let pressure die down, water was cool and water was in the oil. Any idea what is wrong with it.
MOST in service 350 Vortec pickup engines that have been removed have cracked heads, which is what you have. The engine has been run with coolant in the oil and anti-freeze is only slippery on the floor. The bearings are shot and usually the crank. Hope you didn't pay much for it..
The original design intake gaskets are also notorious for blowing, which helped create a lot of those cracked heads. After running w/ water in the oil,it's toast.Time for a rebuild.
