Chevy Vortec 350 Truck question

Hi i just bought a 1996 Chevy Silverado SWB 1500 regular cab pickup, it has the vortec 5.7 engine with a 5 speed manual trans, i was wanting to put true duel exhaust on it with headers, will this help or hurt the performance because some people told me that r emoving the cat system from a vortec engine will hurt performance, but im a dummy on this one because if it isnt a pre emmissions engine with a carb on it im clueless, also any other tricks i might could do to pep this engine up a lil, im not looking for anything to win races at the drag strip just something to make it a little more aggressive, ive considered a chip and MAYBE some roller rocker arms, but nothing more extreme than that, anyways thanks for reading my post and let me know what you guys think

Slide under the truck on the passengers side and look at the cat converter, if there`s a oxygen sensor behind the cat converter, removing the cat will cause the check engine light to come on and stay on. I would just leave the cat and have a single inlet dual outlet muffler installed with dual outlet pipes.

1996 VORTECH EXHAUST

REMOVING THE CATS FROM YOUR 96 VOTECH 350 WOULD MAKE IT BREATH BETTER, BUT YOU HAVE 4 O2 SENSORS ON THE THING 2 PRECAT AND 2 POSTCAT. THE POSTCAT 02 SENSORS WOULD LEAVE A CONTINOUS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND SIGNAL THE COMPUTER TO CHANGE FUEL RATIOS THUS DECREASING PERFORMANCE. PUT IN A CHIP, AN AIR INTAKE, TWO HIGH FLOW CATS, AND A CATBACK DUAL EXHAUST AND YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY AND PASS ANY SMOG NEEDED. BOB
