what happenned is chip left to use his talents independantly & if you ever work for boyd & leave to do that or work for someone else..boyd has a problem with it..which is VERY childish in my opinion..you can NEVER blame a person for bettering himself & advancing

If I was dull enough to make that mistake in the first place I'd end up quitting like the rest of the guys too.

The only reason I would ever consider working for Boyd is that I might get a chance to kick Dwayne's ***. I would love to see him get smacked down. His crap wouldn't go over good at our shop.

It's all TV ... fellas ...
Away from the shows, sitting around the pool ... he is like most everyone here ...

I think I almost agree with Deuce about Boyd. At the NSRA meet I was waiting for my wife in the foyer of the vendors building and about 10 feet from me Boyd and his wife were signing autographs. I have to admit, he seemd like a different person.

Theres a bit more to the story fellas.

Chip DID work for Boyd. He designed the super popular Boydster. Boyd got the credit, as always. Boyd fell on hard times, and the business was heading south FAST. He filed bankruptcy. Chip started Foose Designs so he could feed his family.

Chip started working full-time for Boyd in 1993, became Managing Director and eventually became the President of Hot Rods by Boyd. Chip's responsible for many of Boyd's vehicles such as: Roadster, Sportstar, Boydster I and II, and Boyd Air. Chip's association with Boyd ended in 1998 and he opened Foose Design. I'm not sure if Boyd even controls all of the company (Hot Rods by Boyd) anymore... I know he sold off the wheel business.

Here we go again...
I have said it a thousand times. Unless you have ever met Boyd in person, you wouldn't actually know what he was like IN PERSON. I have met him on several occasions, and I must admit that I think he is a nice guy. It is all put on for a TV show...thats it!
I also believe that the wheel business was sold to his son.
Later,
WEIMER

My understanding is that Boyd sold his Wheel business to Amreican Racing (which may be now owned by someone else?)

Boyd

Dwayne is a *******! If he worked for a major company he would have been fired by now. He needs some supervisor training big time!

bottom line..boyd builds beautifull cars ..has GREAT ideals & can even do it all himself if he had to go back to doing that....and probably IS a nice guy gentleman in person at the car shows..you actualy think he's going to act like that where his build possibilities are at?
but as usual i ALWAYS look at the bottom line & always weigh more on the common sense & what i SEE as to what i HEAR in anything...

bottom line..if all of it was "Just for the show"..then why is he constantly LOSING all his best hands in the shop?..i dont think ANYONE would go as far as a "SHOW" to lose the best talents in his bussiness "Just For the show"

as far as Dwayne..i have to agree with most..he's an arse...if he was such a good boss in that shop..the building would go alot smoother..more talent brought out..etc,..but fact is..all he knows how to do is DOG people..im bettin he dont do many public places..like bars..or even car shows unless he's with boyd..i maybe wrong..but..if I treated people like that & on TV doing it..think i'd be a little skitsy about someone approaching me out there...

I think Boyd is loosing employees due to the ridiculous dead lines for those cars. When I have a customer ask if I can do there car in six weeks, I tell them, aint't no way. Then I ask them if they really want a car that was built that quick. Look in the back ground of Boyd's shop. All the cars from the show builds are back in the shop.

I thought the issue was that when Foose left and started his own thing he double-crossed Boyd by taking customers and employees out from under Boyd. Over the years he has taking many people from Boyds shop. I don't think him going out on his own was the big issue. Eventually people with his talent will branch out on thier own. The "heart-burn" was that he took business and talent from under Boyd's feet. Most of the people that left Boyd's left on good terms and many of them return to help either on temporary terms to help out with specific builds or returned for long-term employment.
