Post choosing a cam

i was wondering if any one could tell me the difference in hyd,hyd roller solid,solid roller. could i use solid roller lifters on my cam that i have in my engine now hyd 480

you cannot use solid lifters on a hydraulic lifter cam. Solid lifters need what is called a clearance ramp ground on the cam lobe to gently take up the valve lash, as hydraulic cams have zero clearance they need no ramp. no you can't use hydraulic rollers on a flat tappet cam either, the cam has a different profile ground on it and also has a slight taper ground on the lobes, a roller doesn't use the taper as they controll end thrust by a mechanical restraint such as a plate. so hydraulic lifters-hydraulic cam. solid lifters- solid cam. hyd rollers- hyd roller cam solid roller-solid roller cam, unless you enjoy replacing wiped out cams and lifters
