chopped headliner, bows, ect.
New to this sub-forum cause my project is moving along, with a huge thanks to everyone.
I've learned so much about body work here, I thought I'd try my hand with the interior :D
The project, a chopped 1950 chevy styleline sedan I rescued.
It's buffed and I'm assembling stuff now, but I would like to start thinking about the interior.
There is about 11" from the last bow pictured to the top of the rear window opening. This is with the bows "vertical".
My concern is the sail panel area.
How would you control that area? Woudn't the headliner just take a bee-line from the sides of the window to the garnish molding (i.e. not in a curved shape)?
I know the 4 door sedans had a BUNCH of bows back there, but with the chop, and tipping the window, everything has changed :confused:

Read this tutorial: http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/head...al-146600.html From what I can tell, you'll be just fine with a stock headliner (naturally the stock headliner will be too long on the sides) and the rear bow right where it is. The rear headliner panel will go straight back to the window opening, and the sail panel area will go down and away from the start of the curve of the rear bow.
There would have been a curved tacking area at the bottom of the sail panel area at the same height as the package shelf, but that's probably gone now after you chopped the roof. This may have been a series of metal tabs that held a piece of heavy cardboard to staple or tack to. You will need to attach something there again. Leave the rear window out until after the headliner is in.

I also appreciate your input, I'm glad to hear it should work from someone who knows more than me (my local upholsterer didn't seem to :mwink:)
I do have the lower sail panel tack strips, I removed the whole inner 1/4 to make the new window guides.
Once I get the fuzzies and stuff installed, the inner panel will be next.
It wasn't really as bad as I imagined it would be.

The headliner itself is from WLS headliners. After a couple of e-mails and a bunch of measurments, here are the results.
You did a fabulous job with this headliner! It really helps not to have the front and rear glass in.
Very nice. The interior trim really makes or breaks a chop. Congratulations.
