I gota ask. Why chop a 56'(or any tri5 for that matter)? Unless your going to custom the whole thing out. I haven't ever seen one that looked good when it was done. Sorry just my .02.

no no you have a very good 2 cents worth there. I worded it wrong.i'm going to raise the roof of a chopped 56. MAN i don't like them chopped 56's either. but in order to do this i have check for chop welds across the top in the sheet metal [if any] and rework the two doors and hopefully the interior mouldings aren't chopped . Heres the kicker-i've looked at 7-8 56 chevys and all the floors are rotted away .i can do these floors i just don't want to. i'm basically tired [several complete chops before this car]The floor is suppossed to be solid but i have to check it out again to be sure.Theres a lot to chopping even this car. i just don't want a mess when i'm done, as i haven't done one of these, nice part is there is no other body work to do.

I agree, if you are going to chop then find a 49 to 54 Chev instead. They look much better chopped. Do a web search for "Rikster" and check his collection of customs.
Check out Ian Berky Customs & Larry Watson's Grapevine (wasn't even chopped).

I'm still not certian exactly what you are asking. You are buying a 56 Chevy that has a chopped top and you want to un-chop it? Is that right?

Chopping a top on one of these cars is a pretty complicated project. To un-chop what some one has done is anyones guess. If it is some old drag car hack then it may be that they simply lowered the roof bending out the posts to fit and cutting the roof off and welding another one would be pretty simple. Or they could have did a bunch of modifying of the lower end of the posts leaning them in to match the smaller roof (The posts are at a slight angle) and to put another roof on is going to take a bunch of work correcting the posts back to stock. It is very hard to say how much work was done.
